Colony Cats is an all-volunteer, nonprofit no-kill animal welfare organization. Since 2003, Colony Cats has provided important and life-saving services to the stray and feral cat population of the Columbus, Ohio metropolitan area. Colony Cats’ mission is to reduce canine and feline overpopulation in Columbus through spay and neuter programs, adoption, and community education. To date, Colony Cats has provided spay/neuter services for close to 9,000 cats and dogs and assisted with the adoptions of 7,500 pets. Trap-neuter-release (TNR) is an important area of focus for the organization, as this is a highly effective and humane approach to reducing stray and feral feline overpopulation. In addition to TNR services, Colony Cats also aids the caregivers of feral cat colonies by providing help with food, shelter, vaccinations, and veterinary care. These important services help to improve the quality of life for stray and feral cats in Columbus. Colony Cats operates a cage-free adoption center that allows cats to roam and play in a safe environment while volunteers work to place them in their “furever” homes. There is also a foster program in place that provides important socialization for dogs and young kittens prior to adoption. Additionally, Colony Cats provides temporary boarding on an as-needed basis to help individuals keep their pets. Colony Cats runs a resale shop next to the adoption center, which sells new and gently used items to raise money for the cats and dogs that the organization serves. Artwork and T-shirts are also available for purchase at the center as fundraisers. The organization is also involved with many animal welfare events in Columbus and the surrounding area, including ongoing adoption events at pet stores such as PetSmart, Petco, PetValu, and Pet Supplies Plus. Colony Cats is also a regular participant at local adoption and awareness events such as Columbus’ Pet Expo, Fetch-a-Friend, Mingle with the Mutts, and Bark Park, among others. Colony Cats is also a network partner with the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the Bissell Partners for Pets program, and the “Lost Pets USA” network. Colony Cats currently entered into a partnership with the newly opened Kitty Bubble Cafe & Bar in Columbus. This organization is a "cat cafe" that sells bubble tea and also houses 14 of Colony Cats' adoptable cats.
